Mr. Alofs is a graduate of Elmira College in Elmira, New York (B.S., 1984). While there, Mr. Alofs received the Varsity Soccer Teams Most Valuable Player Award as well as being the recipient of Elmira College Four Year Letterman Award for Soccer and Four Year Student Athlete Academic Award. Mr. Alofs is also a graduate of Whittier College School of Law in Los Angeles, California, (J.D., 1987), which is now located in Costa Mesa, California.
Mr. Alofs began his legal career by accepting a Judicial Clerkship position with The Honorable Thomas W. O’Toole, Maricopa County Presiding Superior Court Judge, in Phoenix, Arizona. After a two-year clerkship and moving to South Florida, Mr. Alofs accepted a trial lawyer position with Adams, Coogler, Watson & Merkel, P.A. in West Palm Beach. Adams, Coogler, et.al. was and is a very large and exclusive civil trial practice specializing in the defense of insurance companies and their insured’s for claims involving personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, medical malpractice and insurance coverage litigation. This is where Mr. Alofs obtained much of his working knowledge of how insurance companies and their defense attorneys operate. After obtaining invaluable trial experience as an insurance defense trial attorney, Mr. Alofs was approached with a job offer by attorney, Robert Morel Montgomery who had been following his career. Mr. Montgomery is one of the premiere Plaintiffs’ personal injury and wrongful death trial attorneys in the country, for whom Mr. Alofs had previously worked as a law clerk while studying for the Florida Bar exam. Mr. Alofs had the privilege of trying dozens of jury trials while working with Mr. Montgomery, and after five years, left to open his own law firm.
Mr. Alofs is Board Certified as a Specialist in Civil Trial Law, Personal Injury, Wrongful Death and Products Liability by the Florida Bar and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Additionally, the nation’s oldest independent lawyer rating publication, Martindale-
In addition to his law practice, Mr. Alofs is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown Belt training out of “The Armory” in Jupiter, Florida. Mr. Alofs also holds a Fourth Degree Black Belt under the Dillman Karate System in Ryu-Kyu Kempo Karate, a First Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, and a Black Belt in the Filipino Martial Arts of Kali, Arnis and Eskrima under the Sayok Fighting Systems. He is also Certified as a Personal Defense Readiness Instructor in the Blauer Tactical Confrontation Management System, which is used to train defensive tatics to law enforcement agencies and military personnel across the country.
Mr. Alofs makes his home in Jupiter, Florida with his two children, Cash and Halle.
